These bulbs are a great replacement for halogen lamps as they are more energy efficient and create virtually no heat. The smaller LED lamps are great for accent lighting, or where there are a large number of fittings. The high power LEDs (4.5W upwards) are viable alternatives to tungsten or halogen lamps and are available in GU10 or GU53 for downlighters, or with a BC cap for replacing 'standard' hanging lamps. The higher power lamps have at least 0.5 of a carbon credit, ie they are contributing towards offsetting 0.5 Tonnes of carbon dioxide each.
There are also highly energy efficient, compact fluorescent lamps with a long life. These are useful where the initial outlay for LED exceeds budgetary requirements.
